| dc.description | This book explores the cultural dynamics of the Costa Rican Caribbean through the historical processes of gender construction and ethnicity. Although in our academic practice we often refer to the historical character of these categories, in historical production it is difficult to find studies that analyze their dynamism with the depth that Putnam does. Through an imaginative use of quantitative and qualitative sources, the author portrays the cultural construction of the Caribbean and carefully integrates the socio-economic framework in which it takes place. Si bien en nuestra práctica académica frecuentemente nos referirnos al carácter histórico de dichas categorías, en la producción histórica es difícil hallar estudios que analicen su dinamismo con la profundidad que lo hace Putnam. Mediante una imaginativa utilización de fuentes cuantitativas y cualitativas la autora nos retrata la construcción cultural del Caribe integrando cuidadosamente el marco socio-económico en el que esta se desenvuelve. Las tendencias migratorias y las coyunturas económicas, analizadas en detalle, permiten a la autora construir los escenarios del mundo cultural. | es-ES |
