| dc.description | This article deals with the economic heritage of the religious orders in Vuelta Abajo between 1688 and 1842, considering the vital importance of the cattle ranches in the region for the foundation or maintenance of the convents of several of these orders in Havana. For its preparation, an analysis is made of the large dimensions that these regular haciendas had in the period studied, as well as their location relatively close to the Havana territory, which allowed them to be used in economic strategies as suppliers of the necessary resources to their mills and convents in the capital. The sources used correspond to documents kept in the National Archives of Cuba, in the Archbishopric of Havana and in the Provincial Archive of Pinar del Río, as well as works by prestigious scholars on the subject. As a result, the ways of managing the farms, the relations with the tenants and sub-tenants, the livestock composition, the production of livestock, tobacco and food, as well as their commercialization, fundamentally with Havana as the largest recipient of merchandise, are shown they obtained means of subsistence and high income. The lands and slaves that they owned in the region meant large fortunes, hence the economic importance that the territory acquired by becoming a provider for the support of this Institution in Cuba, decisive for the maintenance of metropolitan power in colonial times, as well as for the hegemonic consolidation of the Catholic structure and for its ideological dominance in the first three centuries of our historical formation. | en-US |
| dc.description | El presente artículo aborda el patrimonio económico de las órdenes religiosas en Vuelta Abajo entre 1688 y 1842, considerando la vital importancia de las haciendas ganaderas en la región para la fundación o el mantenimiento de los conventos de varias de estas órdenes en La Habana. Para su confección se realiza un análisis de las grandes dimensiones que poseían estas haciendas de los regulares en el período estudiado, así como su ubicación relativamente cerca del territorio habanero, lo que les permitía ser utilizadas de estrategias económicas como abastecedoras de los recursos necesarios a sus ingenios y conventos en la capital. Las fuentes utilizadas se corresponden con documentos resguardados en los Archivos Nacional de Cuba, en el Arzobispado de La Habana y en el Archivo Provincial de Pinar del Río, además de obras de prestigiosos estudiosos del tema. Como resultado se muestran, las formas de administrar las haciendas, las relaciones con los arrendatarios y subarrendatarios, la composición ganadera, la producción de ganado, tabaco y alimentos, así como su comercialización fundamentalmente con La Habana como mayor receptor de mercancías, de los que obtenían medios de subsistencia y altos ingresos. Las tierras y los esclavos que poseían en la región significaban cuantiosas fortunas, de ahí la importancia económica que adquirió el territorio al convertirse en proveedor para el sostenimiento de esta Institución en Cuba, decisivo para el mantenimiento del poder metropolitano en la época colonial, así como para la consolidación hegemónica de la estructura católica y para su dominio ideológico en los tres primeros siglos de nuestra formación histórica. | es-ES |
