| dc.description | RESUMEN Este artículo es una síntesis del poblamiento humano prehispánico y posthispánico temprano (desde 8500 a.p. hasta 1776 aproximadamente) del Departamento de Iglesia (Provincia de San Juan). Este Departamento está conformado por un gran valle preandino (con desarrollo longitudinal enmarcado entre dos grandes sistemas orográficos) y sectores de alta cordillera. Su particular ubicación lo sitúa en una zona de transición entre el Norte Chico chileno, el noroeste argentino y el norte de la región de Cuyo. El artículo se origina en una conferencia dictada en el Centro de Residentes Iglesianos de San Juan en 2005. PREHISTORIC AND HISTORIC POPULATION OF IGLESIA (PROVINCE OF SAN JUAN).ABSTRACT This article presents a summary of the pre-Hispanic and early post-Hispanic peopling (from 8500 BCE to 1776 approximately) of the Department of Iglesia (Province of San Juan). This department is composed by a great pre-Andean valley (with a longitudinal development between two great orographic systems) and high mountain range areas. Its particular location makes the department a transition area between the Chilean Norte Chico, northeastern Argentina and northern Cuyo area.
