Bearing in mind that a large number of women in prison are single mothers with dependent children, being the main economic and emotional support of the household, it is expected that their incarceration will have a strong impact on their sons and daughters. After carrying out in-depth interviews with women detained at Complejo Penitenciario Federal IV - Ezeiza, Buenos Aires -, the connections maintained by them with their children were investigated. Despite the stated objectives of the penal-penitentiary system for the promotion and strengthening of family ties, the results of the investigation show that it is not fulfilled.
