dc.description	Abstract The article analyzes the role that discipline had over the construction and redefinition of gender identities of the students of the Colegio Superior de Señoritas in the period of 1888-1940, in which the Costa Rican high school education expanded and developed. Diverse studies have demonstrated that education has a fundamental role in the conformation and transformation of gender identities.  However, the original contribution of this paper is to analyze a specific dimension of the educative process: such related with the construction and practical execution of a disciplinary regime. It is argued that such institution played a determinant role in disciplining young girls, and it contributed –among other aspects–, specifically to the construction and redefinition of their gender identities as mothers, wives, creators of citizens and actively involved in social change.	en-US
dc.description	El artículo analiza el papel que tuvo la disciplina en la construcción y redefinición de las identidades de género de las estudiantes del Colegio Superior de Señoritas en el período 1888-1940, durante el cual la enseñanza secundaria costarricense se expandió y desarrolló. Diversos estudios han demostrado que la educación tiene un papel fundamental en la conformación y transformación de las identidades de género. Sin embargo, el aporte original de este trabajo es el análisis de una dimensión específica del proceso educativo: aquella relacionada con la construcción y puesta en práctica de un régimen disciplinario. Se argumenta que, aunque la educación no emancipó a las mujeres, dicha institución tuvo un rol determinante en disciplinar a las jóvenes, contribuyendo, entre otros aspectos y específicamente, a la construcción y redefinición de sus identidades de género como madres, esposas, formadoras de ciudadanos y en agentes involucradas activamente en el cambio y la acción social.	es-ES
