dc.description exploring the recent history of a nation through the analysis of commemorations and festive events triggers the idea that such practices constitute significant reservoirs of social, esthetic and political experiences when organizing and internalizing –provisionally at least– the historical memory and collective identities but also when instituting a new political order and disputing the future. Furthermore, they provide us with an entry point to the analysis of the political and cultural climate of a particular time. Therefore, this paper looks into the ways in which the ‘Bolivarian Revolution’ rebuilt the historical memory and refreshed the national identity during the independence bicentennials in Venezuela. This is carried out by revisiting official commemoration practices and speeches deployed during the country’s celebrations which took place in Caracas on April 19, 2010 (bicentennial of the ‘Supreme Council Conservative of the Rights of Fernando VII’) and on July 5, 2011 (bicentennial of the declaration of Independence) en-US
dc.description : penetrar en la historia reciente de una nación a partir del análisis de las conmemoraciones y prácticas festivas supone conceptualizar a estas últimas como reservorios de sentidos y experiencias sociales, estéticas y polí­ticas fundamentales a la hora de recrear, encuadrar e internalizar –al menos provisoriamente– la memoria histórica y las identidades colectivas, pero también al momento de legitimar posiciones presentes y disputar un horizonte temporal y fáctico. Asimismo, ellas suelen constituirse en interesantes puntos de entrada al clima polí­tico y cultural de una época determinada. Por lo tanto, el presente trabajo se propone abordar los modos en que la denominada “Revolución Bolivariana” buscó reconstruir la memoria histórica y reactualizar la identidad nacional en ocasión de los bicentenarios de independencia en Venezuela. Para ello, se revisan las prácticas y los discursos conmemorativos oficiales desplegados durante las celebraciones patrias que tuvieron lugar en Caracas el 19 de abril de 2010 –bicentenario del establecimiento de la “Suprema Junta Conservadora de los Derechos de Fernando VII” – y el 5 de julio de 2011 –bicentenario de la firma del Acta de la Declaración de Independencia– es-ES
