| dc.description | During the Middle Ages, Cupid underwent a diverse range of modifications, especially with respect to his ethos and aspect. In France, particularly from the beginning of the 12th Century, the dieu d’amours gained great literary importance in works that reflected on the nature of human love. Drawing on Cupid’s medieval mythography, this paper analyses Christine de Pizan’s Epistre au dieu d’Amours, with emphasis on the God of Love of the Roman de la Rose. This analysis may shed light on the meanings of these modifications, as well as on the status of mythology towards the end of the Middles Ages. | en-US |
