This paper aims to present some of the preliminary hypotheses and reflections that have emerged from my ongoing research into the modes of (re)presentation of indigenous women in three sub-regions of Latin America / Abya Yala: South America, the Andes, and Central America. Beginning with the distinction between institutional representation and "epistemic re-presentation", on the one hand, and between different generations of indigenous women, on the other, I address: a) the mechanisms and actions that have developed for institutional representation; and b) the predominant type of text, mediation and thematic shifts in epistemic re-presentation. This analysis is based on historical sources and a corpus comprising documentary material from seven countries and interviews with indigenous women from Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, and Panama.
