dc.description	This article presents an unprecedented approach to the processes of changes and continuities of the uses and functions of the guitar and/or vihuela patented within the elite ―religious and civil― and popular groups in the urban and rural space of Durango, between the period corresponding to the first stage of the bishopric in the seventeenth century and the late nineteenth during the Porfiriato. This article aims to show that, throughout the period indicated, the uses of these chordophones were configured in common functions related to the transmission of human feelings, the consolidation of the political objectives established by hegemony, a sociability that put in communication the “high” and the “low” culture and the achievement of social prestige. dc.description	Este artículo presenta un acercamiento inédito a los procesos de cambios y continuidades de los usos y funciones de la guitarra y/o vihuela patentizados dentro de la élite ―religiosa y civil― y los grupos populares en el espacio urbano y rural de Durango, entre el periodo correspondiente a la primera etapa del Obispado en el siglo XVII y finales del XIX durante el Porfiriato. Este artículo quiere mostrar que, a lo largo del periodo señalado, los usos de esos cordófonos se configuraron en funciones comunes relativas a la transmisión de los sentimientos humanos, a la consolidación de los objetivos políticos establecidos por el grupo hegemónico y a una sociabilidad que puso en comunicación a la “alta” y la “baja” cultura y estuvo al alcance del prestigio social.
