| dc.description | This article tries to explain the analysis of landscape and space as alternative methodological tools to understand the battle of Cerro Gordo, (which occurred during the war between Mexico and the United States) from the point of view of the men who fought there. This text is divided into three points. The first is landscape and space as a methodological tool detailing the geographical, climatological and geological elements of the area studied. The second section uses landscape and space as an interpretive tool to discuss the multiplicity of perspectives that the battle had, noting that the historiography has minimized the dimension of the geographical space, with the empirical recreation of the battle space the paper seeks to follow in the footsteps of those who lived the event. Finally, the essay concludes by reflecting on the question: have the historians underestimated the analysis of landscape and space as a methodological/interpretive tool in our academic work? Based on this, it seeks to remedy the lack of military sources on the war, as well as to propose an approach to other methodologies that enrich the historical research. | en-US |
| dc.description | El presente ensayo es un intento por explicar el uso del análisis del paisaje y el espacio como herramienta metodológica alternativa para comprender la batalla de Cerro Gordo (ocurrida en 1847 durante la guerra entre México y Estados Unidos) desde el punto de vista de los hombres que combatieron. El texto se encuentra dividido en tres apartados. En el primero se explican los conceptos de paisaje y espacio y su utilización como herramientas metodológicas y se exponen los elementos geográficos, climatológicos y geológicos de la zona estudiada. El segundo se dedica al paisaje y el espacio y a su empleo como herramientas de interpretación para hablar sobre la multiplicidad de perspectivas desde las que puede verse la batalla, la dimensión del espacio geográfico que se encuentra minimizado por la historiografía y la recreación empírica que busca seguir las huellas de quienes vivieron el hecho. Por último, en el tercero, que funge como conclusión, se trata de reflexionar en torno a la pregunta: ¿los historiadores hemos subestimado el análisis del paisaje y el espacio como herramienta metodológica/interpretativa en nuestro quehacer académico? Con base en esto, se busca subsanar la falta de fuentes militares en la guerra, así como proponer un acercamiento a otras metodologías que enriquezcan el trabajo histórico. | es-ES |
