dc.description	La historia política de Colombia en el siglo XX estuvo marcada por un continuo protagonismo y activismo político poco homogéneo de la Iglesia católica. El presente artículo, a partir del análisis de correspondencias y actas obispales que se encuentran en diversos archivos episcopales vallecaucanos, intenta describir y explicar cuáles fueron las opiniones y posturas de distintos obispos vallecaucanos entre 1940 y 1965, frente a la violencia política y la presencia de grupos comunistas y protestantes en el departamento del Valle del Cauca. Estos discursos deben ser entendidos bajo la propuesta de “Acción católica” y los discursos de intransigencia religiosa liderados por el episcopado colombiano para reaccionar a las propuestas laicistas que se presentaron en Colombia en el periodo mencionado.
dc.description	Colombian political history in the 20th century was defined by a kind of protagonism as well as by a political activism which were not homogeneous within the Catholic Church. Through the analysis of bishop’s correspondence and other ecclesiastical documents founded in several bishopric archives, this paper describes and explains opinions and positions held by many bishops in the Valle del Cauca, between 1940 and 1965, regarding the political violence and the presence of both communist and protestant groups in the region. In this work, these particular discourses are understood through the lens of the Catholic Action, as well as through the intransigent discourses of many Colombian bishops who reacted against the incoming laicism in Colombia during this period.
