dc.description	The following is a study about food insecurity in a periurban area of southwestern New Mexico (USA), in the city of Silver City. Through a mixed, quantitative and qualitative methodology with the use of questionnaires it was found that the region shows high rates of food insecurity and poverty, this is confirmed by the high rates of the use of food stamps and the use of the food pantry. The organizations that operate these pantries are often nonprofits themselves that fill a gap in the missing services provided by the United States government. These settings in particular are important for observing and analyzing changing patterns in American social well-being, especially as it relates to mitigating food insecurity.	en-US
dc.description	Se trata de un estudio sobre la inseguridad alimentaria en un área periurbana del suroeste de Nuevo México (EE. UU.), en la ciudad de Silver City. A través de una metodología mixta, cuantitativa y cualitativa con el uso de cuestionarios se encontró que la región muestra inseguridad alimentaria y pobreza, esto es confirmado por los altos índices del uso de cupones de alimentos y el uso de la despensa de alimentos. Se concluye que las organizaciones que operan estas despensas a menudo son organizaciones sin fines de lucro mismas que llenan un vacío en los servicios ausentes provistos por el gobierno de los Estados Unidos. Particularmente estos entornos son importantes ya que se pueden observar y analizar patrones y cambios en el bienestar social estadounidense, en especial en la relación con la mitigación de la inseguridad alimentaria.	es-ES
