| dc.description | Este estudio se refiere a la vida y las ideas del educador y gobernante de Argentina Domingo Faustino Sarmiento (1811-1888), llamado por sus coterráneos «el Maestro de Escuela que legó a la Presidencia». Este gran autodidacta tuvo como pasión «la educación, la primera empresa del Estado» .Sarmiento es uno de los educadores que da mayor aporte a las poli ticas ducativas de Argentina en el siglo XIX. Era aún adolescente cuando fundó una escuela ¿leprimeras letras en San Francisco del Monte y a los 19 años, una escuela en el pueblo de los Andes en Chile, en donde realizó su principal actividad docente. Fue el primer Rector de la Escuela Normal de eceptores de Chile, I a primera de Hispanoamérica, Ministro de Instrucción Pública en rgentina y Presidente de la República en el período 1868-J874, la gente lo llamaba «El Maestro de Escuela». Sus ideas educativas y sus acciones, como ministro y como presidente, son del mayor aporte y ejemplo para los países hispanoamericanos, por e/lo se le llamó «Maestro de América». This study refers to the life and ideas of the teacher and govenner of Argentina, Domingo Faustino Sarmiento (1811-1888) called by his fellowmen «the teacher of school who be carne President». This great autolerner had as his passion «the education, the first enterprise of state».Sarmiento is one of the teachers of greater contribution to the educational politics of Argentina in the XIX century. He was still a teenager when he founded a school of first letters in «San Francisco del Monte» and when he was 1 9 years old, a school at Pleugo de los Andes in Chile,1 2- Historia de la Educación Latinoamericana where he did his main teaching ctivities. He was the first rector of Escuela Normal de Preceptores» of Chile, the firs of Lalinamerica, he was minister of Public instrucción in Argentina and President of the Republic from 1868 to 874, people called him «The School teacher». His educational ideas and his actions as minister and'presiden t, are the greater contribution and example for the latinamerican contries, fa this reason he was called «Teacher of America».
