Goiânia, symbol of the “March to the West” from “Estado Novo”, is founded under the aegis of progress, rather than the former administrative headquarters of colonial characteristics. The effort of establishment as capital, however, goes beyond its spatial concretization - through an urban plan that could evoke modernity - and is articulated, also, in the symbolic field. The discourses, prior to the first constructions, are carriers of the idealized city and, in this conjuncture, the representations reside. Understanding them as presentiment of a culturally constructed image, the approach of this work proposes establish a look about Revista Oeste and its photographic records of Goiânia, exploring them as important elements of discursive and imaginary consolidation of the capital.
Goiânia, símbolo da “Marcha para o Oeste” estado-novista, é fundada sob a égide do progresso, em detrimento da anterior sede administrativa de feições coloniais. O esforço de se estabelecer como capital, porém, vai além de sua concretização espacial - mediante um plano urbanístico que evocasse modernidade - e se articula, também, no campo simbólico. Os discursos, antecedentes às primeiras construções, são portadores da cidade que se idealiza e, nesta conjuntura, residem as representações. Entendendo-as como presentificação de uma imagem culturalmente construída, a abordagem deste trabalho propõe estabelecer um olhar acerca da Revista Oeste e seus registros fotográficos de Goiânia, explorando-os como importantes elementos de consolidação discursiva e imaginária da capital.
