The article explores the possibility of interaction between different readings of the city of Rio de Janeiro through time using maps and existing bibliography. Two cuts were favored: the tourist approach and the production of maps and guides in the twentieth century. One of the objectives is to understand how maps produced to construct a certain image of the city, that of "tourist place", keep a universe of information capable of contributing to the inventions and readings of other stories, in an unfinished and fertile process of interpreting and translating.
