By the time we place the preservation of historical heritage as a problem to be studied and discussed, we must evaluate the sense of loss of a daily life that was left behind and replaced, though not without trauma to the social and historical permanence of the city. Having the city as an object of perception of its inhabitants, we broach the subjective of desire as an inductor of the urban practices as well as social representation as an inductor of desire. Therefore, to conduct a study on the perception of the city, it is necessary to understand the society that makes it up, which is as important as the built environment. In this sense, the discourse can have different perceptions and appropriations, whether positive or negative, of the city in its various nuances. Thus, the objective is to analyze the discourse that works up the Ribeira neighbourhood, in Natal-RN, produced in the twenty-first century by print media, represented here by newspapers: Tribuna do Norte, Diário de Natal and Novo Jornal, in order to verify if the representation of the neighborhood stated in the texts affects the desire to pratice the space. Another objective is to investigate the discourse on Ribeira in order to check if it fits the neighborhood in the perception of damned places. Quando se coloca a conservação do Patrimônio Histórico como problema a ser estudado e discutido, faz-se necessário avaliar o sentimento de perda de um cotidiano que ficou para trás e foi substituído, embora não sem traumas para a continuidade histórica e social da cidade. A cidade é objeto de percepção de seus habitantes. Objetivamos abordar o desejo como indutor das práticas urbanas, tendo a imagem como indutora do desejo. Portanto, para realizar um estudo sobre a cidade é necessário entender a sociedade que a compõe e suas práticas, que são tão importantes quanto o ambiente construído. Então, a imagem do bairro da Ribeira está repleta de memórias e significações. Nesta relação multifacetada entre a imagem que se tem de um determinado espaço e sua elaboração por parte da sociedade se dá, sobretudo, através do discurso. Este pode auferir diversas imagens, sejam elas positivas ou negativas, da cidade em suas várias nuances.
