This article discusses one of the topics in the area of mathematics, specifically   the study of fractions, in which students within the conventional school system show difficulties to learn. The conventional way of teaching fractions creates struggle for students due to the different interpretations that can be presented; As a result, repulsion to mathematics, anguish and rejection on the part of the students are fused, which it is reflected in the low performance at the time of being evaluated on the subject. This study is based on a survey of 54 teachers from the Government Educational Units of General Basic Education (EGBM) of the city of Latacunga, Province of Cotopaxi, with the purpose of obtaining information on the materials and resources they use in the learning of the fractions. The quantitative and qualitative methodologies were combined and the conceptions regarding the teaching of fraction learning were investigated, through direct and descriptive research using research techniques such as the questionnaire and observation, and it was determined that the use of materials really It is important for the teaching of fractions, since the teachers attribute that the difficulties that children have to handle the concept of fractions are linked to the null use of manipulative materials.Este artículo discute uno de los temas del área de las matemáticas, específicamente el estudio de las fracciones, en el cual los estudiantes dentro del sistema escolar convencional presentan dificultades de aprendizaje. La manera convencional de enseñar fracciones genera dificultad para los estudiantes debido a las diferentes interpretaciones que se pueden presentar; como resultado, se genera repulsión a la matemática, angustia y rechazo por parte de los alumnos, el mismo que se ve reflejado en el bajo rendimiento al momento de ser evaluados en el tema. Este estudio se basa en una encuesta a 54 docentes, de las Unidades Educativas Gubernamentales de Educación General Básica Media (EGBM) de la ciudad de Latacunga Provincia de Cotopaxi, con el propósito de obtener información sobre los materiales y recursos que emplean en el aprendizaje de las fracciones. Para ello, se combinó las metodologías cuantitativa y cualitativa y se indagó sobre las concepciones respecto a la enseñanza aprendizaje de fracciones, mediante una investigación directa y descriptiva utilizando técnicas de investigación como el cuestionario y la observación, y se determinó que el uso de materiales realmente es importante para la enseñanza de las fracciones, en virtud que los docentes atribuyen que las dificultades que presentan los niños para manejar el concepto de fracciones están ligada a la nula utilización de materiales manipulables.
