dc.description	In this paper it is presented an overview of the causes that are affecting the right development of academic achievement of students attending a BA in English Language at a public university namely Universidad Autónoma del Carmen (UNACAR). Following the national policies and previous research of the topic there were analyzed four factors that might be considered as the causes of failing a course. By means of a questionnaire it was administered to 62 students, divided into four groups depending on the semester they were attending at the moment of the research, all the students who participated in this research were attending the BA in English Language. The four variables tested in this research were the factors related to the academic achievement, familiar factor, social factor and motivational factor. Results do show that the motivational factor and the academic factor are the high factors that promotes the failing a course, backwardness, dropping-out a course and finally a low academic achievement.	en-US
dc.description	En este documento se presenta una visión general de las causas que están afectando el correcto desarrollo del rendimiento académico de los estudiantes que asisten a una licenciatura en idioma inglés en una universidad pública, a saber, la Universidad Autónoma del Carmen (UNACAR). Siguiendo las políticas nacionales y la investigación previa del tema, se analizaron cuatro factores que podrían considerarse como las causas de reprobar un curso. Mediante un cuestionario se administró a 62 estudiantes, divididos en cuatro grupos según el semestre al que asistían en el momento de la investigación, todos los estudiantes que participaron en esta investigación asistían a la licenciatura en idioma inglés. Las cuatro variables evaluadas en esta investigación fueron los factores relacionados con el rendimiento académico, el factor familiar, el factor social y el factor motivacional. Los resultados muestran que el factor motivacional y el factor académico son los factores altos que promueven el fracaso de un curso, el atraso, el abandono del curso y, finalmente, un bajo rendimiento académico.	es-ES
