dc.description	This essay focuses on the poems of the section “Ciudad de México” from Octavio Paz’s Vuelta, one of the author’s most intense books about Mexico. Vuelta chronicles the poet’s return to his native city after years of absence, amidst the controversy for the massacre of students perpetrated by the Mexican army in October of 1968. These poems gather images suggesting a personal conflict for the devastation of the collective history and are a testimony of the encounter with a place, Mexico City, and by extension with the nation, its history and culture, which reveals the existence of a dynamic Mexico that is neither modern, nor ancestral; neitherdeveloped, nor underdeveloped, but the sum of different historic periods and cultures overlapping under the surface. For Paz, criticism is the only way to confront these issues, but being a poet, this criticism includes language.	en-US
dc.description	Este ensayo se centra en los poemas de la sección “Ciudad de México” del libro Vuelta de Octavio Paz, uno de los más intensos acerca de México. Vuelta es la crónica del regreso del poeta a su ciudad natal después de años de ausencia, en medio de la controversia por la masacre de estudiantes perpetrada por el ejército mexicano en octubre de 1968. Estos poemas reúnen imágenes que sugieren un conflicto personal por la devastación de la historia colectiva y son el testimonio del encuentro con un lugar concreto, la Ciudad de México, y por extensión con el país, con su historia y su cultura, lo que revela la existencia de un México dinámico que no es ni moderno ni ancestral, ni desarrollado ni subdesarrollado, sino la suma de diferentesperiodos históricos y culturas superpuestas bajo la superficie. Para Paz, la crítica es la única manera de confrontar estos problemas, pero siendo poeta, esta crítica incluye también a la lengua.	es-ES
