| dc.description | This work evaluates the sustainability of farms producing conventional and organic coffee in the Alto Mayo Valley, San Martin Region, Peru. For the research, organic production farms were selected, belonging to the Fe y Esperanza Valle del Alto Mayo Coffee Cooperative (CACFEVAM) and conventional production, belonging to the Association of Agricultural Producers El Emigrante (APAEM). The sample (n=56), was made up of 26 organic producers of CAFEVAM and 30 conventional producers of APAEM. For data collection we used surveys, which had questions related to the previously selected indicators, according to the MESMIS methodology. For a farm to be considered sustainable, the average of the 17 indicators must have a value equal to or greater than 5 (scale: 2 to 10). The results showed that organic coffee producing farms in the Alto Mayo Valley (San Martin), are more sustainable than those of conventional production. But there are “critical points” where it is necessary to work to increase sustainability and make it durable over time. | en-US |
| dc.description | Evaluar la sustentabilidad de las fincas productoras de café con técnicas convencional y orgánica en el valle del Alto Mayo, Región San Martín, Perú, es el objetivo del estudio. Para la investigación seleccionamos fincas de producción orgánica, pertenecientes a la Cooperativa Agraria Cafetalera Fe y Esperanza Valle del Alto Mayo (CACFEVAM) y de producción convencional, pertenecientes a la Asociación de Productores Agropecuarios El Emigrante (APAEM). La muestra (n=56), estuvo constituida por 26 productores orgánicos de CAFEVAM y 30 productores convencionales de APAEM. Para la toma de datos se usaron encuestas con preguntas relacionadas a los indicadores previamente seleccionados, según la metodología MESMIS. Para que una finca sea considerada sustentable, el promedio de los 17 indicadores debía tener un valor igual o mayor a 5 (en escala 2 a 10). Los resultados muestran que las fincas productoras de café orgánico en el Valle del Alto Mayo (San Martín), son más sustentables que las de producción convencional, aunque existen “puntos críticos” en los que es necesario trabajar para aumentar la sustentabilidad y hacerla duradera en el tiempo. | es-ES |
