| dc.description | Between 1881 and 1882, the Italian naturalist Carlos L. Spegazzini (1858-1926) joined the Italo-Argentinian expedition led by Giacomo Bove to Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego. He collected Fuegian language materials near Ushuaia in 1882, some of which were later published in different publications. In this article, we present a manuscript entitled “Ona-Yahgna-Alacaluf vocabulary by Dr. Spegazzini” that was copied by Samuel Lafone Quevedo in 1899 and was found in his personal archive. It consists of 42 pages that include vocabulary and phrasal forms, mostly in three columns. Each contains data from the Ona, Yahgan and Alacaluf languages. We focus on the Ona data collected by Spegazzini, (which are actually not in Selknam but in Haush, the least known language of the Chonan linguistic family) which have remained unpublished until now, and considerably increase our knowledge of this language. A better knowledge of Haush will, in turn, expand the historical-comparative research into the Chonan languages as well as the study of loan words and other possible phenomena of linguistic diffusion among the indigenous languages of Tierra del Fuego. | en-US |

Spegazzini (1858-1926) participó, como miembro de la expedición ítalo-argentina conducida por Giacomo Bove, de un viaje a la Patagonia y Tierra del Fuego. En 1882 recogió, cerca de Ushuaia, materiales en tres lenguas fueguinas, parte de los cuales fue luego comunicada en varias publicaciones. El presente artículo da a conocer un manuscrito intitulado: “Vocabulario ona-yahgan-alacaluf del Dr. Carlos Spegazzini”, que fue copiado en 1899 por Samuel Lafone Quevedo y se hallaba en su archivo personal. Consiste en un vocabulario y frasario de 42 páginas, mayormente en tres columnas, cada una de las cuales contiene datos de una lengua: ona, yagan y alacaluf. Abordamos los datos onas de Spegazzini, que no pertenecen al selknam sino a la lengua haush, la menos conocida de las que forman la familia lingüística chon. Estos han permanecido inéditos hasta ahora y permiten aumentar considerablemente lo conocido sobre este idioma. Este mayor conocimiento del haush permitirá, a su vez, ampliar las investigaciones de lingüística histórico-comparativa de las lenguas chon, así como sobre préstamos y otros posibles fenómenos de difusión entre las lenguas indígenas de Tierra del Fuego. | es-ES |
