Activism, Linguistic Rights and Ideologies: Translation and Interpretation in Native Languages in Peru

dc.description	Since 2012, the Peruvian state has been developing and delivering training courses in translation and interpreting for speakers of indigenous languages. This programme is a move in the direction of a future formalised ‘translation policy’ in favour of indigenous peoples’ rights, the first of its kind to have arisen in the countries of the Andean region, and as such is worthy of documentation and analysis. In this article, we will focus on two aspects of the trainees’ experience of this process. Firstly, we identify and characterise the form of activism that is taking root among the trainees in favour of indigenous peoples’ linguistic and social rights. Secondly, we examine some of the trainees’ discourses and practices in relation to the exercise of translation and interpreting.	en-US
dc.description	Desde el año 2012, el Estado peruano ha asumido por primera vez la responsabilidad de desarrollar un programa de capacitación para traductores e intérpretes de lenguas originarias. Entre los países andinos esta es la primera iniciativa que será posible relacionar en el futuro con una ‘política de traducción’ destinada a favorecer los derechos de los pueblos originarios; de allí la necesidad de documentarla y analizarla. En este artículo nos concentramos en dos aspectos de la experiencia que están vinculados con los capacitados: caracterizamos el activismo que parece estar consolidándose entre ellos a favor de los derechos lingüísticos y sociales de los pueblos indígenas, y estudiamos algunas ideologías lingüísticas observadas en sus discursos y prácticas, relacionándolas directamente con el ejercicio de la traducción y la interpretación.	es-ES
