The conquest of the Maya lowlands was not completed until the 18th century. In this space, called ‘la Montaña’ by the Spaniards, there lived and coexisted diverse populations in direct or indirect contact with the colonial society. These Maya groups exchanged various goods along trade routes over land, rivers and sea. The analysis of the exchange network in the ‘Montaña’ allows us to develop new hypotheses regarding the history of the region and better understand the process of conquest of their populations.La conquista de las tierras bajas mayas no fue concluida hasta el siglo XVIII. En este lugar, llamado por los españoles ‘la Montaña’, vivían y convivían diversas poblaciones en contacto directo o indirecto con la sociedad colonial. Estos grupos mayas intercambiaban diversas mercancías a lo largo de rutas terrestres, fluviales y marítimas. El análisis de la red de intercambio de la Montaña permite elaborar nuevas hipótesis en cuanto a la historia de la región y entender mejor los eventos en torno al proceso de conquista de sus poblaciones.
