dc.description	Through an integral perspective of longue durée, the present work centers on clarifying the role played by ritual specialists known as naguales in Maya populations during the colonial period. For this, it contemplates the prevalence of the phenomenon of opposition to Spanish dominion and the implementation of palliative mechanisms of cultural disarticulation, strategies that allowed the indigenous society to preserve the structural components of ancient belief. This process falls within a longer struggle that presents diverse nuances. On the one hand, it allows us to glimpse the form in which the Catholic representatives dedicated their efforts to the extirpation of the recurring manifestations of ‘idolatry’, yet on the other hand opens the possibility of glimpsing how native peoples, in their active response to this situation, assumed the task of preserving the primordial substrate of their traditions and ceremonial life.	en-US
dc.description	A través de una perspectiva integral de larga duración, el presente trabajo se centra en esclarecer el papel desempeñado por los especialistas rituales denominados naguales en las poblaciones mayas durante la época colonial. Contempla para ello la prevalencia del fenómeno de oposición al dominio hispano y la implementación de mecanismos paliativos ante la desarticulación cultural, estrategias que le permitieron a la sociedad nativa preservar los componentes estructurales del pensamiento de antigua impronta. Este proceso se enmarca al interior de una dilatada pugna que presenta diversos matices. Por un lado, nos permite entrever la manera en la cual los representantes del catolicismo consagran sus esfuerzos a la extirpación de las recurrentes manifestaciones de ‘idolatría’, y por el otro, abre la posibilidad de vislumbrar la forma en la cual los indígenas, en su respuesta activa ante dicha situación, se abocan a la tarea de resguardar el sustrato primordial de sus tradiciones y vida ceremonial.	es-ES
