dc.description	In Mexico as well as in other Latin American countries, prior consultation has become, in the last two decades, a mechanism of citizen participation that aims to allow the incidence of historically marginalized indigenous groups to make decisions about their own socioeconomic development. In this article we analyze the (in)communication networks deployed during the process of consulting Maya communities in a municipality of Campeche on the genetically modified soybean that is being carried out (2017) by a Mexican government agency responsible for biosecurity. Our analysis will focus on the communication possibilities that the members of these communities establish with each other and with other actors, among them the activists of civil society organizations and officials of different government agencies, as well as the misunderstandings that arise in this process. We are particularly interested in describing the language games that lead to misunderstandings in order to highlight the historical relations of power and inequality that largely determine the outcome and results of prior consultation in Mexico.	en-US
dc.description	En México así como en otros países latinoamericanos, la consulta previa se ha convertido en las dos últimas décadas en un mecanismo de participación ciudadana que se propone permitirles la incidencia a grupos indígenas históricamente marginados de la toma de decisiones sobre su propio desarrollo socioeconómico. En este artículo analizaremos las redes de (in)comunicación desplegadas durante el proceso de consulta a comunidades mayas en un municipio de Campeche sobre la siembra de soya genéticamente modificada que está llevando a cabo (2017) por una agencia del gobierno mexicano encargada de la bioseguridad. Nuestro análisis se centrará en las posibilidades de comunicación que los miembros de dichas comunidades establecen entre sí y con otros actores, entre los que destacan los activistas de organizaciones de la sociedad civil y funcionarios de distintas dependencias del gobierno, así como los malentendidos que surgen en este proceso. Nos interesamos en particular describir los juegos del lenguaje que conllevan a malentendidos, a fin de evidenciar las relaciones históricas de poder y desigualdad que determinan en gran medida el devenir y resultados de una consulta previa en México.	es-ES
