dc.description	A vast number of Gorgotoquis seem to have spoken a well disseminated but now virtually unknown language during the 16th century, and then disappeared without a trace. The paper argues, firstly, that these Gorogotoquis are the posterior "Penoquis” mentioned by Jesuit sources in the 18th century. Secondly, by comparing similarities and differences between their language and the languages of the neighbouring Indians known as "Chiquitos”, and by deepening some of Slovenian scholar Branislava Susnik’s intuitions, the paper challenges the traditional ethnic classification of these groups based on linguistic criteria.	en-US
dc.description	Hablantes de un idioma desconocido pero sin embargo muy difundido en el siglo XVI, los numerosos gorgotoquis de la actual Chiquitania boliviana parecen haber desaparecido sin dejar rastro. Este artículo plantea, primero, que se puede reconocer a los gorgotoquis en los "penoquis” de los jesuitas del siglo XVIII; segundo, y retomando algunas de las intuiciones de la etnóloga eslovena Branislava Susnik, que al contrastar las similitudes y diferencias entre su idioma y el de los indígenas chiquitos de los alrededores puede cuestionarse la tradicional clasificación étnica basada sobre el criterio lingüístico.	es-ES
