| dc.description | Para las mujeres ch’orti’ son de principal importancia dos objetos que van marcando las pautas de su vida personal como de la vida de su familia y de su pueblo: el comal y el metate (piedra de moler). Sobre estos dos utensilios se realiza la elaboración de tortillas de maíz. El comal tiene una superficie circular de alrededor de un metro que sirve para tostar las tortillas. Vendría a ser una metáfora del ciclo vital, comparado con el círculo solar; si está caliente, significa que está en activo, hay acto social, y debido al uso se rompe y debe ser restituido para mantener las relaciones sociales. En estado frío no estaría en funcionamiento, y no se dan dichas relaciones. El metate, que viene acompañado por una mano de moler, también de piedra, es comparado con el cuerpo de una mujer, con protuberancias y rugosidades que con el uso se desgastan, un objeto que se transmite por vía materna. En el manejo des estos objetos, se trata de procesos y habilidades únicamente realizados por mujeres, en todos sus detalles. | es-ES |
| dc.description | For Ch´orti´ women there are two very important objects that characterize their life cycle as well as those of their family and their people: the comal and the metate (grinding stone). The preparation of maize tortillas is performed with these two tools. The comal has a circular surface of approximately one metre that serves for toasting the tortillas. It is like a metaphor of the life cycle, compared to the solar cycle; when it is hot, this means that it is active, there is social action, and due to the use one makes of it, it breaks up and must be restored to keep the social relations. Under cold conditions it would not function and these relationships would not occur. The metate, which comes with a "grinding hand" also made of stone, is compared with a woman's body, with protuberances and wrinkles that wear down with use. It is an object that is passed on via the mother. These objects are only handled by women, in every respect. | en-US |
