| dc.description | Don Andrés Cocom, a native of Sotuta (Yucatán), is famous for his leadership in a rebellion against Spanish colonial domination in 1583. Certainly, he has to be seen as one of the first rebels in colonial Maya history. It is far less known, that his rebellious life is also recorded in the colonial Yucatec books of Chilam Balam. The article at hand presents the narration of "Don Antonio Martínez” from the books of Chilam Balam, and its historical origin in the life of Don Andrés Cocom.
