| dc.description | Objetos de oro de la época precolombina forman parte de las riquezas de la cultura mundial. El valor que estos objetos tienen desde los puntos de vista artístico, estético e histórico-evolutivo es mucho más alto que su valor material. Desde la conquista española, sin embargo, solían refundirse los objetos de arte de los indígenas para sacar el metal precioso, destruyendo así miles y miles de verdaderos tesoros indígenas durante los últimos quinientos años (véase Duque Gómez 1958: 309). De ahí que los esfuerzos por conservar estos objetos y dar a conocer su significado ha de ser una tarea especial de la arqueología y la etnología americanas. | es-ES |
| dc.description | Gold objects from prehispanic America are among the treasures of mankind's cultural heritage. They are of highest artistic, aesthetic and historical value but of less value concerning the material used. However since the times of Spanish Conquest many of these works of Indian art have been melted down to gain the gold. Because of this an innumerable amount of these works of art had been destroyed during the past 500 years (see Duque Gómez 1958: 309). Therefore, it should be considered a duty of first importance among scholars in the field of archaeology of the Americas to preserve such objects, to inform the public about them, and to discuss their significance. | en-US |
