dc.description	In the literature on Euro-Atlantic relations in the bipolar contraposition years, the reflections on the strategic role of Latin America in the defense of the West are still scarce. Most of the works are limited to underlining the marginality of the area, underestimating that some initiatives to create organic links between the regional pacts of the entire Atlantic community were not lacking, even from the Latin American side. In this context, the essay analyzes the purposes of the Prado Doctrine, an initiative presented by the Peruvian president between 1957 and 1958 with the aim of building a solidarity core of Latin countries and allowing Latin America to assume more assertive positions in the structures of the international policy. With the support of unpublished diplomatic sources, the reflection focuses mainly on the contradictions and processes that prevented the Prado doctrine from reaching practical applications. Therefore, the work article examines the Cold War alliances in Latin America in order to point out the heterogeneity of positions that the system held to the detriment of the ideal solidarity often exhibited.	en-US
dc.description	En la literatura sobre las relaciones euroatlánticas durante los años de contraposición bipolar son aún escasas las reflexiones acerca del papel estratégico de América Latina en la defensa de Occidente. La mayor parte de los trabajos se limita a subrayar la marginalidad del área, subestimando que no faltaron, incluso desde el lado latinoamericano, iniciativas para crear vínculos orgánicos entre los pactos regionales de toda la comunidad atlántica. En este contexto, el ensayo analiza los propósitos de la Doctrina Prado, iniciativa expuesta por el presidente peruano entre 1957 y 1958 con el objetivo de construir un núcleo solidario de países latinos y permitir a América Latina asumir posiciones más asertivas en las estructuras de la política internacional. Con el soporte de fuentes diplomáticas inéditas, la reflexión se centra sobre todo en las contradicciones y los procesos que impidieron que la Doctrina Prado alcanzara aplicaciones prácticas. De esta manera, el trabajo se interroga sobre las alianzas de la Guerra Fría en América Latina para señalar la heterogeneidad de posiciones que el sistema ostentaba en detrimento de la solidaridad ideal a menudo exhibida.	es-ES
