Translation as Overcoming? Trauma and (Re)writing in Laura Alcoba’s Le bleu des abeilles

dc.description	In Le bleu des abeilles (2013), Laura Alcoba evokes her exile in the suburbs of Paris in 1979 and the following correspondence with her father who remained imprisoned in Argentina. Soon the act of translating becomes indispensable in order to maintain an affective relationship with him, as they communicate in Spanish about books she reads in French. Thus, translation opens a shared mental space between Argentina and France. This article sheds light on how the conscious acquisition of French, at the cost of Spanish, initiates the elaboration of (unconscious) trauma which Cathy Caruth, based upon Freud, defines as the external which became interiorized without any mediation. Nevertheless, Alcoba’s trauma never dissolves completely and the author ends up having an ambiguous attitude towards both languages.	en-US
dc.description	En Le bleu des abeilles (2013), Laura Alcoba evoca su exilio a los suburbios de París en 1979 y la siguiente correspondencia con su padre, quien se quedó encarcelado en Argentina. Pronto el acto de la traducción se vuelve imprescindible para mantener una relación afectiva con él, ya que a la distancia se comunican en español sobre libros que ella lee en francés. De esta manera, la traducción da paso a un espacio mental común entre Argentina y Francia. En este artículo, nos proponemos arrojar luz sobre cómo la consciente adquisición del francés, a costa del español, pone en marcha la elaboración del trauma (inconsciente) que Cathy Caruth, basándose en Freud, define como lo externo que se interiorizó sin mediación alguna. No obstante, el trauma de Alcoba nunca se disuelve completamente y la autora termina teniendo una actitud ambigua hacia ambas lenguas.	es-ES
