dc.description	Born in the France of the Ancien Régime, the commissaire de police has a capital importance in the history of modern policing. The European historians have underlined its ambivalence and complexity: authorities named by the central government, but at the same time supported with local funds, and struggling between the administration of justice and police bureaucracy. This paper analyses how this authority emerged in the Hispanic American world, focusing on the case of the city of Buenos Aires in the long nineteenth century. The comisarios of Buenos Aires have built a strong writing tradition, materialized in the form of police journals and memoirs, which constitutes the main documentary source of this work.	en-US
dc.description	Nacida en la Francia del Antiguo Régimen, la figura del comisario es central en la historia de las policías modernas. La historiografía europea ha destacado su ambivalencia y complejidad: autoridades nombradas por el gobierno central, pero a su vez sustentadas con recursos locales y tensionadas entre la administración de justicia y la burocracia policial. Este artículo analiza la emergencia de esta autoridad en el mundo hispanoamericano, con foco en el caso de la ciudad de Buenos Aires en el largo siglo xix. Los comisarios de Buenos Aires construyeron una sólida tradición de escritura, materializada en revistas policiales y memorias que constituyen la principal fuente documental de este trabajo.	es-ES
