| dc.description | La investigación volcada en esta tesis presenta un análisis etnográfico de la vida social del pueblo garífuna de Livingston en el contexto de los procesos de re-etnificación dentro del Estado-nación guatemalteco, identificando su impacto en la práctica ritual del Yurumein público de las fiestas de San Isidro y del Día del Garífuna Guatemalteco. Su objetivo principal es explicar las relaciones entre música, espiritualidad y dinámica identitaria en el mencionado ritual, reconociendo el sistema de producción simbólica que dichas acciones informan. Por medio de un enfoque interpretativo-hermeneútico basado en la antropología de la experiencia, se analizan problemáticas como la pobreza, la economía informal y la marginalización estatal de la población. Seguidamente, se indagan espacios y prácticas de representación y patrimonialización de la tradición oral en relación con la etnogénesis y la memoria colectiva local para luego presentar una descripción densa del Yurumein, estableciendo un diálogo con las referencias académicas sobre este ritual, analizando ambas festividades desde una perspectiva experiencial atenta a la dimensión sonora. En esta tesis se sostiene que las acciones rituales investigadas se configuran como formas de acción política sonoramente organizadas que vehiculizan significados de uso estratégico y, como tales, moldean la identidad garífuna contemporánea de modos diversos.The research introduced in this thesis presents an ethnographic analysis of the social life of Livingston’s Garífuna people in the context of re-ethnification processes within the Guatemalan nation-state, and its impact on a public ritual called Yurumein, which takes on San Isidro festivities and the Guatemalan Garífuna Day. The main goal of this work is to explain the relationships between music, spirituality and identity dynamics that are developed in this ritual, and to recognize the system of symbolic production informed by it. Firstly, through an interpretive-hermeneutic approach based on the Anthropology of experience, there are analyzed problems such as poverty, informal economy and the marginalized state of the population. Secondly, there are studied the spaces and practices of representation and the patrimonialization of oral tradition, and its relation to ethno-genesis and local collective memory. Thirdly, a dense description of the Yurumein is presented, a dialogue with other academic literature focused the ritual is developed, and an analysis of both festivities is made from an experiential perspective, which emphasize the sound dimension. This thesis states that the ritual actions are configured as soundly organized forms of political action that convey meanings of strategic use and shape the contemporary Garífuna’s identity in a diversity of ways. | |
