| dc.description | The legalization of the homosexual marriage puts unions between persons of the same sex on a level with those between heterosexuals. The newly appointed PSOE Government has responded to one of the most important demands of the homosexuals and becomes, at the same time, the awaited prize after years and years of active campaigning. Nevertheless, the approval of the law has been opposed by an important part of Spanish society. This opposition, bringing together the PP, the Church and, especially, by the Spanish Forum of the Family, has hit the headlines and brought to the end a number of separate initiatives, turning it into the main force against the new law both before and after its approval. Besides, the existence of differences among those in favour and those against the law and the dialectical struggle between the two sides, shows that the reason for the conflict and the mobilization cannot be diminished to a simple problem of homophobia: it is related to the existence of deep differences concerning the meaning and implication of terms as "family" and "marriage". | en-US |
| dc.description | La legalización del matrimonio homosexual equipara las uniones entre personas del mismo sexo a las uniones entre personas heterosexuales. La iniciativa del recién estrenado gobierno del PSOE da respuesta así a una de las grandes reivindicaciones del colectivo homosexual y supone el esperado premio a años y años de movilizaciones. Sin embargo, la aprobación de la ley choca frontalmente con la oposición de un sector importante de la sociedad española que, representado por el PP, la Iglesia y, sobre todo, por el Foro Español de la Familia, se echa a la calle y lleva a cabo diversas iniciativas que le convierten en protagonista del debate surgido antes y después de la aprobación de la ley. Además, la existencia más o menos visible de divergencias internas tanto entre partidarios como entre contrarios a la ley y la pugna dialéctica que se establece entre todos ellos muestra que lo que alimenta el conflicto y la movilización no debe reducirse a un simple problema de homofobia: se trata de la existencia de profundas diferencias en torno al significado y al alcance de términos como "familia" y "matrimonio". | es-ES |
