| dc.description | In this article I use Arendt's thought to analyze the different responses to the so-called "refugee crisis" by European governments and I contrast them with the self-image that the European Union has attempted to cultivate. With this aim, I connect the issue with Arendt's concept of the "pariah" and her notion of "worldlessness". Further, I examine the limitations and perplexities that Arendt found behind the discourse of human rights and how it implies that an effective protection of the refugee can never be ensured. This is the reason why, I conclude, the refugee tends to be represented as a kind of new and contemporary barbarian. | en-US |
| dc.description | Este artículo analiza las diferentes respuestas europeas a la llamada “crisis de los refugiados” desde el pensamiento de Arendt y las contrasta con la imagen que ha intentado cultivar la Unión Europea de sí misma a nivel público. Para ello, se conecta esta cuestión con el concepto arendtiano de paria y con la experiencia de “pérdida de mundo”. Luego, se examinan los límites que Arendt detectó detrás del discurso de los derechos humanos y cómo éstos impiden que se pueda garantizar la protección de las personas refugiadas. Finalmente, se explica por qué los refugiados y las refugiadas aparecen de diverso modo como una suerte de nuevos bárbaros contemporáneos. | es-ES |
