dc.description	In the present work we will analyze the concept of “communication networks”, as proposed by the historian Robert Darnton in his research on the processes of formation of public opinion at the origins of the French revolution. The central hypothesis is that this notion allows us to tackle in a novel way the tensions of Cultural History. We propose, in turn, that the use of this notion goes back to a tradition of French social theory that was forgotten for several decades by the dominant traditions in the social sciences: the theory of Gabriel Tarde. We consider relevant a reading of Darnton’s works in articulation with the sociological tradition, since this will allow us to unveil 1) the notion of “the social” that underlies his research; 2) the reason for its methodology; and 3) understand the author’s position in the controversies over the history of the book, especially the one he maintained with his colleague Roger Chartier.	en-US
dc.description	En el presente trabajo analizaremos el concepto de “redes de comunicación” tal como lo propone el historiador Robert Darnton en sus investigaciones sobre los procesos de formación de la opinión pública en los orígenes de la revolución francesa. La hipótesis central es que dicha noción permite abordar de una forma novedosa las tensiones propias de la Historia Cultural. Proponemos, a su vez, que el uso de esta noción se remonta a una tradición de la teoría social francesa que fue olvidada por varias décadas por las corrientes dominantes en las ciencias sociales: la teoría de Gabriel Tarde. Consideramos relevante una lectura de las obras de Darnton en articulación con la tradición sociológica, ya que ésta nos permitirá develar 1) la noción de “lo social” que subyace en sus investigaciones; 2) el porqué de su metodología; y 3) comprender la posición del autor en las controversias sobre la historia del libro, en especial la que sostuvo con su colega Roger Chartier.	es-ES
