dc.description	In this article I develop a historical interpretation of aesthetic surgery as a normalizing technology of body appearance. The argument I present holds that the normalization apparatus of aesthetic surgery operated according to a homogenizing rationality until the middle of the past century, undergoing since the second post-war a reconfiguration process which nowadays established it as an individualizing regime. I illustrate this argument by considering the changing cultural meaning and value that the experience of rhinoplasty received along this period. The method I employ is the comparative analysis of two texts produced in different historical conditions: first, Transformation and Identity. The Face and Plastic Surgery (1974), by the American anthropologist Frances Cooke Macgregor; secondly, Hacerse. El viaje de una mujer en busca de la cirugía perfecta (2010), by the Argentine journalist Daniela Pasik.	en-US
dc.description	En el presente artículo desarrollo una interpretación histórica de la cirugía estética como tecnología normalizadora de la apariencia corporal. El argumento que despliego sostiene que la cirugía estética, en cuanto dispositivo de normalización, funcionó con arreglo a una racionalidad homogeneizadora hasta mediados del siglo pasado, para sobrellevar desde la segunda postguerra un proceso de reconfiguración que llegaría a consolidarse en la actualidad como un régimen de carácter individualizador. Ilustro este argumento a partir de una consideración del sentido y el valor cultural cambiante que en este período recibió la experiencia de la rinoplastia. El método empleado es el análisis comparativo de dos textos producidos en condiciones históricas diversas: por un lado, Transformation and Identity. The Face and Plastic Surgery (1974), de la antropóloga estadounidense Frances Cooke Macgregor; por otro, Hacerse. El viaje de una mujer en busca de la cirugía perfecta (2010), de la periodista argentina Daniela Pasik.	es-ES
