| dc.description | Psychology, as a discipline, adopts a dualistic imaginary of the body: as a porous yet closed boundary. Therefore, accessing the "truth" of the subject requires all sorts of techniques and tools. The psychological discourse often considers these devices in exteriority of the subject. As a counterpoint, I propose that the artifacts are a constituent part of the corporal imaginary. The argument compares the Skinner Air Crib and Gesell’s Laboratory, two inventions of the mid-twentieth century, and a XXI century neuropsychological research about the location of the self. In the first two cases, the body is constructed as a porous barrier that participates within hygienic parameters, both operating and optimizing individual performance and military metaphors that has shaped social policy practices. The discussion of the neuropsychological research, as a case study, does not intend to question the results of the research from the neuropsychological field. It points towards those understandings and assumptions that reveal the connection of the neuropsychological discourse with its cultural context. Special attention is paid to gender construction, ways of mediating scientific knowledge, the hybridity between the neuropsychological reductionism of the scientific framing and the entertainment industry; as well as to the new forms of identity formation and the complementarity of the visuals and performance in the contemporary scene. | en-US |
| dc.description | La psicología adopta un imaginario sobre el cuerpo como superficie cerrada pero al mismo tiempo porosa. Acceder a la “verdad” del sujeto requiere toda suerte de técnicas y aparatos. En el discurso psicológico estos dispositivos o aparatos suelen concebirse en exterioridad al sujeto. En contraposición, propongo que los artefactos son parte constituyente del imaginario corporal en tanto participan de ciertos entendidos de época. El argumento compara dos inventos de mediados del siglo XX —la Cuna de Aire de Skinner y el Laboratorio de Gesell— con un estudio del siglo XXI que utiliza tecnologías digitales de visualización en la investigación neuropsicológica sobre localización del self. Los casos del siglo XX construyen un imaginario corporal como frontera porosa que participa de los parámetros higienistas y de optimización de la ejecutoria individual y de las metáforas militares. La discusión de la investigación neuropsicológica —como estudio de caso— no pretende cuestionar los resultados de la investigación desde el terreno neuropsicológico. En su lugar, intenta apuntar hacia aquellos entendidos y suposiciones que hacen patente la vinculación del discurso neuropsicológico con su contexto cultural. La discusión centra la atención sobre construcción de género, las formas de mediación del conocimiento científico, la hibridez entre el reduccionismo neurofisiológico del encuadre científico y la industria del entretenimiento, así como sobre las nuevas formas de inscripción de la singularidad identitaria y las formas de complementaridad entre lo visual y el performance en la escena contemporánea. | es-ES |
