Child victims of gender-based violence following the reform of the protection system: Analysis through the Spanish press

dc.description	Children and adolescents are victims, mostly silent and invisible, of the sexist violence in the homes in which they grow up. In Spain, Organic Law 8/2015 of July 22, amending the protection system for children and adolescents, recognized this reality by describing them as direct victims of gender-based violence. This research seeks to discover whether, after the adoption of this rule, there have been any substantial changes in the consideration and lives of these minors. For this purpose, a mixed empirical investigation was carried out, identifying the variables "gender-based violence" and "child victims of gender-based violence" in the news published in three nationally prestigious newspapers (elpaís.com; eldiario.es; elmundo.es) in 2014 (before the reform came into force), and in 2017 and 2019 (after the reform).  A total of 1234 reports have been analyzed, of which 257 are specific about child victims of gender-based violence. The results show the still scarce protection of children, the adultcentric and patriarchal nature of the legal agents, and the slowness with which the modifications are implemented.	en-US
dc.description	Los niños, niñas y adolescentes son víctimas, mayoritariamente silenciosas e invisibles, de la violencia machista existente en los hogares en los que crecen. En España, la Ley Orgánica 8/2015 de 22 de julio, de modificación del sistema de protección a la infancia y adolescencia, reconoció esta realidad al tipificarles como víctimas directas de la violencia de género. Esta investigación pretende descubrir si, tras la aprobación de esta norma, se han producido cambios substanciales en la consideración y en la vida de estos menores de edad. Para ello se ha llevado a cabo una investigación empírica, de carácter mixto, que identifica las variables “violencia de género” e “infancia víctima de violencia de género” en las noticias publicadas en tres periódicos de prestigio de ámbito nacional (elpaís.com; eldiario.es; y elmundo.es) en el año 2014 (antes de la entrada en vigor de la reforma), y en 2017 y 2019 (después de la misma).  Se han analizado un total de 1234 noticias, de las cuales 257 son específicas sobre infancia víctima de violencia de género. Los resultados arrojan la todavía escasa protección de la infancia, el carácter adultocéntrico y patriarcal de los operadores jurídicos, y la lentitud con la que se implementan las modificaciones.	es-ES
