dc.description	This text addresses the ways in which, within the political regimes of Nicaragua and Venezuela, the ruling party and the opposition interact in the local political arena. Starting from recent election results and measures of democracy from the global V-Dem project, patterns of political interference and mechanisms of social control are identified that diminish citizens’ options to vote for opposition candidates, to organize, and to participate autonomously at the municipal level. Additionally, the concrete effects this interaction has had on the democracy of both countries are discussed.	en-US
dc.description	El texto aborda los modos en que, dentro de los regímenes políticos de Nicaragua y Venezuela, el oficialismo y la oposición interactúan en el ámbito político local. Partiendo de un balance de coyunturas electorales recientes y del proyecto global V-Dem para el estudio y medición de la democracia, se identifican patrones de injerencia política y mecanismos de control social que disminuyen las opciones de la ciudadanía para votar a candidaturas opositoras, organizarse y participar autónomamente en el ámbito municipal. Adicionalmente, se discuten los efectos concretos que esta interacción ha tenido para la democracia de ambos países.	es-ES
