dc.description	Thanks to the chronicles and accounts of the conquerors and friars who arrived to Mexico, much valuable information is available to us on the forms of knowledge, use and handling of natural resources in the Pre-Hispanic world, which were vast and significant. Fortunately for all of us, the material use of bird resources has been documented and catalogued. However, the value attached to the use of bird paintings has been left aside, despite being an important iconographic element throughout both time and cultures, having a significant impact on a people's worldview. That is why we want to account for the experience arisen from the studies on taxonomic identity and on the symbolic role of the birds portrayed in the walls of various archaeological sites in Mexico, taking into consideration the levels of graphical representation and thematic integration. This essay takes into account the archaeological information found on the site, as well as historical, ethnographic and cultural factors, including religious beliefs. One of the consequences of these studies is that a major inventory has been taken on those bird species used and valued not only as iconographic elements.	en-US
dc.description	Gracias a las crónicas y relatos de los conquistado res y frailes que llegaron a México, es que se cuenta con valiosa información sobre las formas de conocimiento, uso y manejo de los recursos naturales en el mundo prehispánico, los qu e fueron vastos y significativos. Así, para nuestra fortuna, el uso material del recurso aves s e ha documentado y catalogado, sin embargo ha quedado de lado la concerniente al valor que posee el uso de la imagen, misma que en diferentes culturas a través de los tiempos ha sido un elemento iconográfico de importancia que incide en la estructura de la cosmo visión de un pueblo. Es por ello que se presenta la experiencia derivada de los estudios so bre la identidad taxonómica y sobre el papel simbólico de las aves plasmadas en los muros de diferentes sitios arqueológicos en México, considerando los niveles de representación gráfica, así como de integración temática. En esta labor se toma en cuenta información arqueol ógica del sitio, factores históricos, etnográficos y culturales, incluida las creencias r eligiosas. Uno de los productos de estos estudios es un inventario importante de especies de aves usadas y valoradas no sólo como elementos iconográficos.	es-ES
