dc.description	Il saggio ricostruisce l’attività antifascista del sarto Giovanni Meloni (classe 1898), originario del centro minerario di Guspini, attraverso lo studio delle lettere che lo stesso Meloni inviò in Sardegna al nipote Italo Pisano. Già segretario, quando ancora non aveva compiuto i sedici anni, del locale Circolo giovanile socialista, Meloni aderì al Partito comunista ed ebbe modo di conoscere e frequentare Antonio Gramsci. Negli anni Venti emigrò negli USA. Per vivere, aprì una bottega di sartoria a New York, ben presto frequentata da attori e politici, come Franklyn Roosvelt jr. e Fiorello La Guardia, Sindaco della Grande Mela. Tra i suoi clienti, gli italiani Enrico Fermi e Arturo Toscanini, e lo scienziato Albert Einstein, al quale l’artigiano di Guspini confezionò l’abito per il suo funerale. Negli anni Sessanta, il sarto antifascista si trasferì nella cittadina di Saint Petersburg, in Florida, della quale fu amministratore civico, ricoprendo la carica di 1° assessore e di vice sindaco.	it-IT
dc.description	The essay reconstructs the activities of anti-fasci st Giovanni Meloni (born 1898), a tailor from the mining town of Guspini, through the study of his letters sent to his nephew Italo Pisano in Sardinia. When he was not yet sixteen he was appointed secretary of the local Young Socialists' club, then he joined the Communist Party and met Antonio Gramsci. In the twenties he emigrated to the USA, where he opened a tailor shop in New York that soon became a meeting point for actors and politicians such as Franklin Roosevelt Jr. and Fiorello La Guardia, mayor of the Big Apple. Among his most renowned customers were Enrico Fermi, Arturo Toscanini, and the scientist Albert Einstein, for whom the artisan of Guspini tailored his funeral suit.
