dc.description Object: This article seeks to explore how territoriality - or appropriation of territory - influences the productive and competitive conditions and capabilities of an organization. Methodology: A productivity analysis was carried out in three rural production units in the department of Caldas, Colombia, based on parameters related both to its productive process and the manifestations of territoriality within. The results were contrasted with the concepts found in the relevant literature on business competitiveness. Finding: The observations made suggest that the level of productivity and the competitive capabilities of the productive units are influenced by factors derived from territorial expressions that subsequently might affect the execution of diverse production processes. Conclusion: the use of territorial criticism is fundamental for the construction of public policies and strategic organizational guidelines with a view to strengthening productive and economic conditions for the development of the territory. en-US
