| dc.description | This article was written by the author from the knowledge of her parents, of the Nonuya and Muinane groups of the Middle Caquetá River (Colombian Amazon), with the support of an indigenous research grant of the Tropenbos-Colombia Foundation. The article stresses the importance and meaning of the garden for indigenous peoples, and explains how the gardens in former times were, the labors involved in the preparation of a new garden (clearing the underbrush, slashing, burning, planting and maintenance), the manner of planting different species, the species and varieties of seeds planted, the changes that have taken place in the gardens nowadays, and the process to extract manioc starch and to prepare the yellow manioc, used to obtain fariña (thick manioc flour). It includes a glossary with the biological identification of plants and animals and the explanation of terms and expressions in the Muinane language and local Spanish. | en-US |
| dc.description | Este trabajo fue escrito por la autora a partir del conocimiento de sus padres, de las etnias nonuya y muinane, en el medio río Caquetá (Amazonia colombiana), con el apoyo de una beca de investigación propia de la Tropenbos Internacional Colombia. El artículo destaca la importancia y significado de la chagra para los indígenas y explica cómo eran las chagras en tiempos anteriores, los trabajos involucrados en la preparación de una chagra nueva (socola, tumba, quema, siembra y mantenimiento), la manera de sembrar las diferentes especies, las especies y variedades sembradas en la chagra, los cambios que se han dado en las chagras que se hacen hoy en día, y el proceso para extraer el almidón de yuca y preparar la yuca amarilla de donde se obtiene la fariña. Incluye un glosario con la identificación biológica de nombres de plantas y animales, con explicación de términos en lengua muinane o español local. | es-ES |
