This paper describes the “toughening” process of Pedro Juan, the narratorcharacter of Trilogía sucia de La Habana, and how he eventually became a fiction writer. In order to achieve this, the author analyzes the narrator’s production as a writer: the ten short stories written in third person in Sabor a mí, the last volume of the trilogy. Finally, the author suggests that Trilogía is based on an argument of Gutiérrez’ conception of art and writing.Este artículo describe el proceso de “endurecimiento” que experimenta el narrador-personaje de Trilogía sucia de La Habana que lo lleva a convertirse eventualmente en escritor de ficción. Para ello la autora analiza, como producto de la escritura del narrador, los diez cuentos en tercera persona que conforman Sabor a mí, el último libro de la trilogía. Finalmente se plantea que Trilogía se construye como un argumento sobre la concepción que Gutiérrez tiene acerca del arte y la escritura.
