| dc.description | The health emergency due to COVID-19 has led to vertiginous changes in the mobility of people, from mandatory confinement in some countries to voluntary confinement, as is the case in Mexico. The ways of dealing with voluntary confinement depend on the inhabited contexts. In this research, through a remote survey, we approached the perceptions of 132 citizens of Xalapa and Coatepec, Veracruz, during April and May 2020 concerning the wooded or rural and inhabited urban contexts; meanwhile, voluntary confinement was taking place. The results indicate that the inhabitants of these cities enjoy the environment they inhabit, know the type of vegetation surrounding them, and consider that they have enough space outside their houses, through whose windows they see trees, among which fruit trees stand out. In addition, they report that what they most enjoy living in the contexts during voluntary confinement is family, tranquility, and nature; instead, they do not enjoy being isolated from friends and family. We discuss whether Xalapa and Coatepec could be models of cities whose biodiverse characteristics are significant in terms of the ecosystem benefits associated with human well-being in health crises such as that caused by COVID-19. | en-US |
| dc.description | La emergencia sanitaria por COVID-19 ha propiciado cambios vertiginosos en la movilidad de las personas, desde confinamiento obligatorio en algunos países, hasta el confinamiento voluntario, como es el caso de México. Las maneras de enfrentar el confinamiento voluntario dependen de los contextos habitados. En esta investigación, a través de una encuesta remota, nos aproximamos a las percepciones de 132 ciudadanos de Xalapa y Coatepec, durante abril y mayo de 2020, con relación a los contextos boscosos o rurales y urbanos habitados, mientras transcurre el confinamiento voluntario. Los resultados nos indican que los habitantes de estas ciudades disfrutan el entorno que habitan, conocen el tipo de vegetación que les rodea y consideran que tienen espacio suficiente afuera de sus casas, a través de cuyas ventanas ven árboles, entre los cuales destacan los árboles frutales. Además, reportan que lo que más disfrutan de los contextos habitados durante el confinamiento voluntario es a la familia, la tranquilidad y la naturaleza; en cambio, no disfrutan no poder ver amigos y no visitar a la familia. Discutimos si Xalapa y Coatepec pudieran ser modelos de ciudades cuyas características biodiversas resulten significativas en cuanto a los beneficios ecosistémicos asociados con el bienestar humano en crisis sanitarias como la causada por COVID-19. | es-ES |
