| dc.description | The designation of Natural Protected Areas is an important strategy within environmental policy for species conservation. Protected areas are subject to external and internal human actions that jeopardize their conservation. In the strategies for strengthening protected area policy and management, enforcing the law is essential. Inspectors authorized to apply the law help reduce illegal activities within protected areas. Continuously verifying compliance with the law is crucial to mitigating the negative impacts within these areas. The purpose of this document is to analyze the number of inspectors by size of protected area by state. Using databases from government institutions, it was found that there is an insufficiency of personnel to cover the largest size of protected areas. Moreover, in many cases, an increase in the size of protected areas is not accompanied by a corresponding increase in the number of inspectors. States with larger protected areas have the same number of or fewer inspectors to monitor compliance with the law than those with smaller ones. | en-US |
| dc.description | La designación de Áreas Naturales Protegidas representa una estrategia importante dentro de la política ambiental para la conservación de especies. Las áreas protegidas están propensas a acciones humanas externas e internas que ponen en riesgo su conservación. En las estrategias para el fortalecimiento de la política y gestión de áreas protegidas, la aplicación de la ley resulta indispensable. Los inspectores facultados para aplicar la ley ayudan a reducir actividades ilegales dentro de áreas protegidas. Verificar el cumplimiento de la ley de manera continua es crucial para mitigar los impactos negativos dentro de dichas áreas. El presente documento tiene el objetivo de analizar el número de inspectores por superficie territorial de área protegida por entidad federativa. A partir de información recogida en bases de datos de instituciones gubernamentales se identificó, por un lado, una insuficiencia de personal para cubrir la mayor cantidad de superficie territorial de áreas protegidas, y por otro, que el incremento de la superficie territorial de áreas protegidas en muchos casos no va acompañado de un aumento en el número de inspectores. Entidades federativas con mayor superficie de áreas protegidas llegan a tener el mismo o menor número de inspectores para vigilar el cumplimiento de la ley que entidades con extensiones más reducidas. | es-ES |
