| dc.description | This study explores the premise that effective participation in conservation can be facilitated when local community members develop the capacity to assess their management actions and evaluate various alternatives that promote natural resource management and conservation. To this end, we present information on the definition of the topics of interest that participants from two communities in Calakmul, Campeche agreed on to undertake joint research activities. The issues generated, through focus groups and participatory mapping, pointed to productive aspects, rather than those directly related to conservation, reflecting the needs and concerns of participants. The results of this selection of topics were analyzed as a diagnosis that makes it possible to interpret the local reality according from the perspective of its inhabitants and to identify key aspects implicit in conservation. Emphasis is placed on the importance of collaborative work between academia and civil society in contributing to increasing the local capacities required for the management of the region in the medium and long term. | dc.description | En este estudio se explora la premisa de que una participación efectiva en conservación puede facilitarse cuando los miembros de las comunidades locales desarrollan capacidades para valorar sus acciones de manejo y ser capaces de evaluar diversas alternativas que promuevan la gestión y conservación de los recursos naturales. Para ello, presentamos información sobre la definición de temas de interés que participantes de dos comunidades en Calakmul, Campeche, acordaron para desarrollar actividades de investigación conjunta. Los temas que se generaron, a través de grupos focales y mapeo participativo, apuntaron a aspectos productivos, más que a aspectos directamente relacionados con la conservación, reflejando las necesidades y preocupaciones de los participantes. Se analizan los resultados de esta selección de temas como un diagnóstico que permite interpretar la realidad local según la perspectiva de sus habitantes e identificar aspectos clave implícitos en la conservación. Se hace énfasis en la importancia del trabajo en colaboración entre academia y sociedad civil para contribuir a incrementar capacidades locales que se requieren para la gestión del territorio en el mediano y largo plazo. De igual forma se analizan los retos que este marco de trabajo presenta. | es-ES |
