| dc.description | Diversos autores han identificado al estado de Veracruz como un baluarte temprano del liberalismo, presentando como argumentos diversos debates habidos entre el gobierno estatal y la jerarquía eclesiástica. Un acercamiento distinto a esos debates, enmarcándolos en el concepto de nación vigente y dentro la política eclesiástica del gobierno veracruzano de la época del primer federalismo, resulta en conclusiones opuestas. Durante la mayor parte del primer gobierno republicano, la elite gobernante veracruzana siguió apoyando el culto religioso, mantuvo la sacralización de la vida pública y respeto la jurisdicci6n eclesiástica. Los debates surgieron en virtud de la aparición de la nueva soberanía estatal y, s6lo entre 1833 y 1834, por el deliberado intento de secularizar a la sociedad. Veracruz: a Catholic State, 1824-1834 Some authors have identified the State of Veracruz as an early bastion of Liberalism. They argue their case using the debates sustained between the government and the church's hierarchy. A different approach to the study of those debates, compares the standing idea of nation with the ecclesiastical policy of the Veracruz government during the first federalist regime; the approach throws up the opposite conclusion. For most of that period, Veracruz's governing elite continued to support religious practice, they also upheld the salification of public life and respected ecclesiastical jurisdiction. The debates began over the emerence of the new state's sovereignty and, only between 1833 and 1834, was there a deliberate attempt to secularize the society. | es-ES |
