| dc.description | El artículo presenta un panorama de la práctica testamentaria en la Xalapa de la primera mitad del siglo XVIII. Usando los testamentos elaborados en ese periodo se rescatan aspectos relacionados con las prácticas ante la muerte; prácticas con una fuerte carga religiosa que exteriorizaban las creencias de las personas que sentían cercana la hora del óbito. Por otro lado, los testamentos también son utilizados para analizar las relaciones familiares que se dejan ver en la repartición de la herencia: pleitos, deudas, amistades, preferencias, etcétera. Todo ello en un intento por reconstruir una parte de la vida social de la Xalapa de la época. Death, Religion and Family in Testamentary Practice in Xalapa, 1700-1750This article presents an overview of testamentary practice in Xalapa in the first half of the eighteenth century. Based on wills written during this period, the essay uncovers certain practices related to the end of life, embued with strong religious beliefs that reveal the mentality of people who felt they were close to death. At the same time, the author uses these wills to analyze family relationships revealed by this event: the distribution of inheritance, lawsuits, debts, friends, preferences, etc., in an effort understand social life in Xalapa in the first half century of Bourbon rule. | es-ES |
